Organised Rides
There are lots of organised bike rides available in the UK in the summer months. Here are details of just a few of the ones we took part in as part of our training for the big ride:
The Great Kent Sponsored Charity Bike Ride
- Event date:
- Sunday 14th June 2009
- Location:
- North Park, Tannery Lane, Ashford, Kent, TN23 1PL
- Distance:
- Long Route: 60 miles Short Route: 35 miles
- Description
-
Come and explore a varied landscape of ancient towns, gentle hills and unspoilt shingle beaches – and help to raise vital funds for the Canterbury Oast Trust at the same time!.
With a choice of two circular routes of 53 and 29 miles, this ride takes you over wooded hill through unspoilt countryside to where the Garden of England meets the Sea.
Starting in Ashford, both routes head back in time across Romney Marsh. At Newchurch, the short route follows quiet country lanes through pretty villages, while the long route heads on towards the coast at St. Mary’s Bay and through the open landscape of the Denge and Walland marshes to the ancient ‘smuggler’s capital’ of Rye, bringing you back across the Isle of Oxney.
Long and short routes converge at the Rare Breeds Centre at Woodchurch, where you can take a well-earned break and learn more about the Canterbury Oast Trust’s valuable work.
Ride It! West London
- Event date:
- August 1st & 2nd 2009
- Location:
- The Misbourne, Misbourne Drive, Great Missenden, Bucks, HP16 0BN
- Distance:
- Fun – 12miles, Short – 30miles, Medium – 60miles, Long – 90miles (distances are approximate and subject to change).
- Description
-
Leaving Great Missenden, we weave through the same hills as the Off road ride, just on tarmac. Keeping to as many back roads as possible, the routes pass through many picturesque villages, past a few windmills and up to some great viewpoints before returning to the event centre. With loads of pubs in the area, there’s also opportunities to have a swift refreshment, contemplate what’s to come and enjoy the day.
